The Alpine Easter Market took place twice at Kirchbichl, on March 27 and April 3. While the first event defied the weather by moving the market indoors to the Meixnerhaus, the second event rewarded us with a clear blue sky and sunshine. The many vendors offered everything from hand-sewn clothing, handmade crafts, and homemade schnapps to dumplings and bacon, and surely provided the perfect Easter gift or two. There was plenty to satisfy the appetite as well: roast pork (at the first market), farmer’s doughnuts (at the second market on Good Friday), coffee and cake, and of course fresh bread from the wood-fired oven at the Katschner Bakery—all of this, combined with the many visitors, made the two Fridays an unforgettable Easter market.
On Good Friday, the church bells fall silent – as the saying goes, “they’ve flown to Rome.” Instead, at set times, people “rattle” their rattles. Here, wooden rattles take the place of the church bells.
