We want what we do to last. That’s why we are constantly working to keep the Sigmund Thun Gorge clean and protect nature.

Think green? Act green!
all together.

It is a magnificent natural spectacle and a real visitor magnet, a place of relaxation and a source of energy—our Sigmund Thun Gorge is a green happy place and should remain so! For the locals and the many tourists. To preserve the Kaprun Gorge, we are committed to fair play for all.

#thinkgreen1: Mindfulness through flora and fauna

Please pay attention! The area around the Sigmund Thun Gorge is home to many animal and plant species. Let’s treat their habitat with respect and stay on the paths so that the plants are not trampled and we do not disturb the animals in their refuges.

#thinkgreen2: Avoid waste, reduce waste

For your picnic, use a lunch box instead of aluminum foil, buy fruit loose instead of packaged, and bring a reusable water bottle that you can refill at drinking fountains. If you still end up with trash, please take it home with you!

#thinkgreen3: Please use ashtrays

Cigarette butts are toxic plastic waste that takes decades, if ever, to decompose: this is a major problem for the environment. Please use the ashtrays next to our trash cans or pick up a free pocket ashtray at the cash desk for when you’re on the go.

#thinkgreen4: Climate-friendly travel

Can’t reach the gorge on foot? Take one of the public buses to 50 meters in front of the entrance. If you come by e-bike, you will find a free charging station right at the entrance to the Sigmund Thun Gorge during opening hours.

#thinkgreen5: Book Fast Lane

Buy your admission tickets online via the web shop, have your cell phone ready, and take the fast lane at the entrance: you don’t need a printed ticket to go through the turnstile. This saves resources and a lot of time.

#thinkgreen6: Woof, your dog can come too!

Dogs are welcome in the gorge, on the Bürgkogel, and around the Klammsee (dog park!). Please keep your dog on a leash and use the dog stations to dispose of dog waste, which can cause great damage to sensitive ecosystems!

Gorge in Winter

The Sigmund-Thun Gorge is now on Winter Break

A heartfelt thank you to all our visitors for the many unforgettable moments and the wonderful, thrilling experiences shared in the midst of nature’s power.

Now it’s time for peace and quiet – ice, snow, and silence take the stage as the gorge rests and prepares for nature’s renewal.

We look forward to welcoming you again around the beginning of May 2026!
