Kaprun from Nine Perspectives – the Views of Kaprun Tour
Panoramic views, history and nature on a single circular trail: the Views of Kaprun Tour leads from the Kirchbichl to the Kesselfall in the upper Kaprun Valley and shows the village from its most beautiful side. Our hiking tip for golden autumn days.
Anyone who thinks they already know Kaprun will be pleasantly surprised on the Views of Kaprun Tour. The circular trail, around 21 kilometres long, links familiar places with unexpected viewpoints and lets you literally walk through Kaprun’s history. Nine stations along the route invite you to pause. Each one is dedicated to its own “view” and features a QR code that gives you further information directly on your smartphone.
From the Kirchbichl to the Kesselfall
The starting point is the Kirchbichl. Set high above the village, the church square offers one of the best views of the Kitzsteinhorn, while the renovated farmhouses around it give an impression of what Kaprun looked like in times gone by. From here, the trail leads to the Jakobskapelle right next to Kaprun Castle and on up the Lechnerberg, where one of the finest views of Lake Zell opens up.
The Barbarakapelle commemorates the construction of the dams and the years of reconstruction after the Second World War, before Kaprun’s 3,000-metre peaks and their glaciers come into view at the Bürgkogel. Past a maple tree more than 200 years old, the route continues to the Kesselfall, where water from seven streams plunges into a rocky basin. On the way back, a historic Pelton turbine tells of Kaprun’s rise through the construction of the power plant, before the artistically designed gate at the sports ground frames one last view of the Kitzsteinhorn and the tour ends back at the Kirchbichl.

Our tip: combine the tour with the gorge and the museum
The tour pairs perfectly with a visit to the Sigmund Thun Gorge. Wooden walkways and bridges lead through the gorge of the Kapruner Ache, up to 32 metres deep, all the way to the Klammsee lake. Right at the starting point, the Kaprun Museum in the Steinerbauernhaus invites you to discover 4,000 years of local history, from archaeology and rural life to the construction of the power plant and tourism.
The Sigmund Thun Gorge is open daily in October and until November 2nd from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. You’ll find all the details about the route on our Views of Kaprun Tour page.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Sigmund Thun Gorge daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through November 2nd, 2026.
